What a blessing it is to have such an array of sweet aromas to draw from, each one serving a different purpose and health benefit!  Do you need something to calm you?  Or maybe the opposite, something to give you a pick-me-up.  What about one that smells good and has disinfecting elements?  Essential oils are a natural way to enhance the atmosphere of any room.  I have used a few recipes to achieve this as well as disinfecting benefits.  These are a few to get you started:

I like to make this recipe I found at Food.com's site.  They have a few different recipes to try, to accomplish different purposes.

Calming Air Freshener

I have a bottle prepared in our master bathroom with the lavender recipe.  This one I spray on our
bed pillows, linens and hanging bath towels to give them a calming scent.
  • 1 cup of distilled water with 4 drops of lavender essential oil with 3 drops of chamomile oil
{Why use distilled water in these recipes you might ask?  Distilled water, unlike tap water, has all the impurities removed...like minerals, chlorine, etc. that could affect the quality of your recipe.}

Disinfecting Spray

I have another bottle prepared in our master bathroom for deodorizing.  This one I spray in the toilet, trash can and room spraying to keep areas freshened in between bathroom cleanings.

  • 1 cup of distilled water with 3-4 drops of eucalyptus oil

Homeopathic Cleaning Spray

I use this recipe for cleaning surfaces in the bathroom and kitchen, found at Easy Aromatheraphy Recipes.  This is a safer alternative to some of the harsh chemicals and leaves a pleasant, uplifting aroma in the room.

  • 1 teaspoon Borax
  • 2 cups hot boiled Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap
  • 3 tablespoons white Vinegar
  • 15 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
  • 5 drops Tea Tree essential oil

  • Essential Oil Plug-in Refill Recipe

    AND who doesn't like to save money plus have a lovely smelling home?  How about giving this plug-in refill idea a whirl found at Healthy Homemakers blog?  So, don't throw away your 'name-brand' glass plug-in container when it goes empty, just mix this simple concoction together, plug back in and breathe in the lovely aroma of your essential oils.

    Your comments are a blessing to me and to those visiting...just as the Scripture says,
    Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. {1 Thes. 5:11}
    A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
    {Proverbs 25:11}
